First-Hand Insights on Oliva Enoteca
Into pizza, pasta, mozzarella, or a good bruschetta? Mérida doesn’t have tons of great Italian spots, but Oliva Enoteca totally hits the mark for me. It’s one of the city’s nicer places, right on the popular restaurant row – Calle 47.
Oliva Enoteca has a spacious, modern vibe I really like – plus a cocktail bar where you can watch the chefs in action through the open kitchen. If you want to be sure of a table, it’s smart to book a few days ahead.
Another great Italian spot is Gran Pizzería La Tratto Montejo – they’ve got locations at Parque de Santa Lucía and up north in Mérida. But first, let’s get back to Oliva.
I once had a quick chat with the kitchen team – at Oliva Enoteca, they stick to authentic Italian recipes, mixing top-quality imported ingredients with fresh local stuff. It’s the real deal, and you can taste it.
So, what’s good on the menu?
🍝 The menu includes a variety of handmade pastas, from classic tagliatelle to rich, slow-cooked lasagna. Their seafood dishes, such as the squid ink risotto or the perfectly seared tuna, are also worth trying.
🥩 If you enjoy meat dishes, the osso buco is a standout, cooked in a flavorful sauce. Osso Buco is Italian. The name literally means "bone with a hole", referring to the braised veal shank dish where the marrow bone is a key element.
🍰 To finish your meal, I highly recommend the tiramisu. I’m a big fan of this dessert, and theirs is especially good, with just the right balance of mascarpone and espresso-soaked biscuits.
My Wine Recommendations
As you’d expect from a top-tier restaurant, Oliva Enoteca has an extensive wine list with over 200 white and red wines from around the world. If you appreciate a good glass of wine with your meal, you’ll have plenty to choose from.
🍷 If you’re looking for a good local wine, Mexican varieties are definitely worth exploring. The Valle de Guadalupe region in Baja California is known for some of the country’s best reds, including full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo.
