First-Hand Insights on Micaela Mar & Leña

The restaurant Micaela Mar & Leña has several advantages at once. First and foremost, the food is exceptional, featuring a mix of Mexican cuisine with a focus on seafood, meats, salad variations, and more.

In addition to receiving multiple awards, the restaurant consistently ranks among the top 20 out of nearly 900 restaurants in Mérida on TripAdvisor.

To top it off, Micaela Mar & Leña is housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century colonial mansion, with an incredibly charming and stylish interior.

And it's no surprise: the beautiful design comes from Xavier Salas, the architect behind Casa Loltún, who also recommended this restaurant to us. Plus, it's just two blocks away from our house, making it easy to visit.

Highlights at Micaela Mar & Leña

I love seafood, so the location is right up my alley. My favorites are the grilled octopus with burnt chilies and their signature ceviche, which comes with coconut and just the right kick of habanero.

They’re also known for crispy fried chicken with honey butter, plus fresh oysters and wood-fired meats that always smell amazing coming off the grill. And, honestly, I could go back just for the inventive daily specials and the cocktails.

On the tables you will find QR codes to view the menu online on your cell phone. If you ask, you can get a real menu instead of using the QR code – prefer that, because scrolling on your phone can be a hassle.

How to Book a Table

Since the restaurant is often very busy, I recommend a table reservation. You can call or also book online through Micaela's website. Of course, you can also just stop by, and if you don't get a table that evening, you can book one for later.

Where to Find Micaela Mar & Leña Online

In addition to Micaela's website, you can follow the restaurant here:

The Restaurant Row

The Restaurant Row stretches about four blocks east from the south traffic circle of Paseo de Montejo on Calle 47. This entire area was renovated in 2023 and is now home to some of the city's top dining spots and fashionable cafes.

Micaela Mar & Leña sits along the Corredor Gastronómico at the corner of Calle 52, tucked away toward the far end of the street.

On Calle 47, you'll find more fine restaurants such as Olivia Enoteca, 130 Grados Steakhouse, and Catrín. There are also cafes like Cafetería Impala, Baretto Espresso Bar, Marmalade 47 or Latte Quatro Sette, as well as the highly recommended El Lucero del Alba.
