130 Grados Steakhouse

130° Steakhouse has branches in Mérida, Tulum and Santiago de Querétaro. The restaurant in Mérida is relatively small (so there are only a few tables), but authentically furnished in a nice dim atmosphere.

As with almost all houses in the historic center, you cannot draw any conclusions from the outside as to what might be hidden behind the door. Again, it's a little surprise and part of the charm of the city.

As the name suggests, 130 Grados Steakhouse serves meat in a variety of cuts. For example, a Rib Eye Steak, a New York, Porterhouse or Tomahawk Steak and, of course, ribs. There are also more unusual creations, have you ever tried a New York steak with coffee crust?

The wine selection is also extensive (especially red wines, of course). There is even the excellent Opus One from California's Napa Valley. But you would have to be willing and able to pay well over 1,000 US dollars for a bottle.

Prices

The price of the meat is calculated by weight. This makes it somewhat intransparent and can of course also lead to surprises. In my case I had also overlooked that my steak was actually meant for two people.

Oh dear! Even for two people it was a powerful piece of meat and so I had for the steak with a side dish more then US-$ 100 on the bill. So the price level is upscale, but the lover of a good steak is guaranteed to get his money's worth.

Awards, reservations, online presence

TripAdvisor has honored the restaurant with its Travellers' Award. Table reservations can also be made by telephone or online and in addition to its own website, you can also find 130 Grados Steakhouse on Facebook.

What does the name mean?

130° stands for the perfect medium-rare core temperature of a steak (130°F resp. 54°C). Well, at least from my point of view, it's the perfect temperature. The steak remains juicy and tender and has an optimal balance between juiciness, taste and texture

The Restaurant Row (Calle 47)

130 Grados Steakhouse is located on the so-called Restaurant Row (Corredor Gastronómico) that extends about four blocks east on Calle 47 from the south traffic circle of Paseo de Montejo. The whole street was renovated in 2023 and there are some of the best restaurants and trendiest cafes in the city.

You will find the fine restaurants Olivia Enoteca, 130 Grados Steakhouse, Catrín or Micaela Mar & Leña, the cafés Cafetería Impala, Baretto Espresso Bar, Marmalade 47 or Latte Quatro Sette and the cantina El Lucero del Alba.
