All about Galerías Mérida Mall in Mérida, Mexico (2025)

Galerías Mérida was actually the first mall I ever visited in the city. It’s located in Mérida’s vibrant northern area, where most of the biggest shopping centers are concentrated. In my opinion, it is one of the best places to visit if you’re looking for a large mall.

The shopping center offers a mix of shopping, and entertainment. Alongside La Isla Mérida Malltertainment – my personal favorite – it really stands out, not just because it’s huge, but because there’s such a great variety of things to do and see.

Since its big expansion in 2018, Galerías Mérida has really taken the crown as the city’s largest – and one of the liveliest – malls. If you’re into a busy, buzzing vibe, go on the weekend. If you prefer it quiet, weekday mornings are your best bet.

What Awaits You at the Mall?

Galerías Mérida is a shopping destination that offers more than just a place to browse.

With

• around 100 shops,

• some restaurants and coffee shops,

• an ice skating rink,

• a modern movie theater,

• and a fully equipped gym,

it is the perfect spot to spend a few hours or even an entire afternoon.

Right in the middle of the mall, there’s an ice rink – and honestly, there’s something charming about watching people glide by while you shop. Always reminds me a bit of the one at Rockefeller Center in New York.

The variety makes it easy to find something - whether you're looking for the latest fashion, unique gifts, or simply indulging in a little retail therapy.

There are a few restaurants, coffee spots, and snack bars, but none particularly noteworthy – though I’m not a fan of typical mall fast food, to be fair. If you like Ki'Xocolatl at Parque de Santa Lucía, you’ll love their big shop in the mall.

Liverpool, a stylish department store with quality products, is part of the mall, while Costco, offering everything from groceries to household items, is just across the street.

Looking for Clothes?

One of the key attractions of shopping centers is undoubtedly the wide variety of clothing stores, and Galerías Mérida is no exception. You will find several local and international brands such as

• H&M,

• Pull&Bear,

• Zara,

• Bershka,

• Sfera or

• Stradivarius.

If shopping for clothes is on your list in Mérida, this is where you need to be.

What are the Downsites?

Galerías Mérida has that classic glossy mall vibe – shiny floors, a bright roof, and wide-open spaces that really turn up the volume on that polished feel. It’s impressive at first glance, no doubt about it.

That said, I wouldn’t want to work there all day, and after two or three hours I’ve usually had enough. It just feels a bit too artificial for me – a few more green corners, like at La Isla, would make a big difference.

La Isla Mérida Malltertainment is just as big, but it comes across as a bit cozier and less over-polished. That slightly more relaxed look appeals more to me – but hey, that’s just my personal take.

Further Tips and Hints

Occasionally, also events take place at the shopping center, such as live performances, special sales or cultural events. I recommend keeping an eye on their official website or social media channels if you are planning a visit.

When we have been to the mall during the week it has never been particularly crowded. There is no underground parking garage, but there are plenty of parking spaces in the shade if you park at the back entrance near the Ibis hotel.

The largest malls can be found in the northern and northeastern areas of Mérida. This area is home to many newer residential developments and is popular among expats. I can recommend all the malls, but my personal favorite is La Isla.
