First-Hand Insights on La Isla Mérida Malltertainment

Of course – you’re right – a mall is a mall. But to me, La Isla really goes the extra mile: there’s greenery everywhere inside and out, and they’ve used warm, earthy tones throughout, so it actually feels cozy and inviting rather than just another big box of stores.

The full name is La Isla Mérida Malltertainment – but everyone just calls it La Isla.

This modern shopping center sits in a beautiful park area up north in Cabo Norte – it’s one of the largest malls in Mérida. Having been to all malls around town, I can tell you this is the most well-designed and enjoyable.

Main entrance from the outside

La Isla Mérida has a wide selection of restaurants and a beautiful outdoor area with a lake where you can relax, enjoy a meal, or grab a drink.

Of course, there are also plenty of shopping options to explore. The mall is pet-friendly and perfect for a leisurely stroll, making it a nice place to spend time beyond just shopping.

Like in many large malls, you'll find a Cinépolis movie theater here. Many Cinépolis locations in Mexico screen films in their original English language with Spanish subtitles, making them accessible to international visitors.

By the way, you will also find a gym here. Sports World is not directly connected to the mall but is located just behind the large Liverpool department store.

What I really like about La Isla Mérida Malltertainment is its dome-shaped, milky glass roof, which lets in natural light and creates a bright, inviting atmosphere. Unlike many other malls that feel sterile, this one has a warm and welcoming design.

The use of earthy tones throughout the space adds to its cozy feel, and there are small green areas scattered around, making the shopping experience even more pleasant.

Outdoor Attractions at La Isla Mérida

Outside, a large artificial lake runs along the length of the mall, with pools of water featuring bronze turtles, fish, and birds. Life-size bronze crocodiles are scattered along the ground, and fountains shoot water high into the air.

Across the lake, a new residential area is gradually expanding. The northern part of Mérida is now largely made up of these uniform modern developments.

The entire complex is thoughtfully designed with great attention to detail. La Isla Mérida Malltertainment even offers the chance to go water skiing on the lake for around 400 pesos.

You can ride a zipline in a large oval across the lake, with a few spots where you can jump if you’re feeling adventurous, similar to the setup at The Harbor Lifestyle Mall. The mall also hosts live events and has a small playground for children.

Where to Eat at La Isla Mall

There is a a giant food court with indoor and outdoor seating options. Starbucks, Häagen Dasz and Santa Clara (my favorite ice cream parlor) are not missing. There are two sushi restaurants (e.g. the Izakaya) and many other options.

By the way, sushi restaurants in shopping malls, like Izakaya, usually serve extra-large sushi rolls, though they tend to have a lower fish-to-rice ratio. For most people, two rolls are more than enough for a satisfying meal.

And What about Shopping?

Oh, I almost forgot... Shopping definitely isn’t overlooked here either. You’ll find plenty of well-known stores, like Billabong with clothing and accessories for surfing, skating, and snowboarding, and Calvin Klein Underwear because, well, the name says it all.

H&M operates one of the more than 4,000 existing stores worldwide, Zara is on site, the American fashion suppliers Guess and Tommy Hilfiger are on site, the Spanish casual fashion brand Pull & Bear and the French luxury brand Longchamp.

Surrounding the fountain are multiple retail stores, including a prominently lit Liverpool department store and various international fashion brands. The area is busy with shoppers on both levels.

What else can you find? Montblanc offers high-quality fountain pens, wristwatches, and jewelry, while the Danish brand Pandora has a selection of elegant jewelry.

If you're looking for new sunglasses, Ray-Ban has a great selection. For top-tier drones, DJI, the global market leader, is the place to go. Liverpool also runs a massive department store with a wide range of products.
