First-Hand Insights on SOHO Galleries

SOHO Galleries describes itself as "The very best of fine contemporary art in a convenient location in the heart of Mérida." Founded in 2008, it has since become one of the city's most well-known galleries.

SOHO Galleries is located in the heart of Mérida, just a short walk from Paseo de Montejo, the city's most famous avenue lined with historic mansions and lively cafés.

It is also near Santa Ana Park, a charming square known for its local food stalls, colonial church, and relaxed atmosphere – and you’ll find several other galleries in the area as well.

The name comes from the famous art district in New York, which is no coincidence. The gallery was established by New Yorker Adele Aguirre, who moved to Mérida after running a software company in the United States for 20 years.

What You’ll See at SOHO

SOHO Galleries primarily showcases works from artists in Mexico and Cuba, but also features pieces from France, Canada, India, and the USA. While paintings make up most of the collection, sculptures are also on display.

Exhibitions and Events

The artists can be met during the "Artists Without Borders" exhibitions and events. The gallery regularly hosts openings and cultural events, giving visitors the chance to engage with the artists and their work in a relaxed setting.

Meet the Artists Behind the Art

Some of the more well-known artists regularly exhibited at SOHO Galleries include

  • Eduardo "Choco" Roca Salazar,

  • Erlin Geffrard,

  • Laura Bueno,

  • and JAAR.

Choco is a celebrated Cuban artist known for expressive, textured mixed-media works exploring identity and culture. Erlin Geffrard, from the U.S., creates bold, thought-provoking pieces that mix modern themes with personal stories.

Mexican artist Laura Bueno is known for vibrant, detailed paintings reflecting nature and human connection. JAAR stands out in Mérida’s art scene with abstract, conceptual works that challenge traditional views.
