First-Hand Insights on Pola Gelato Shop

Pola Gelato Shop was founded in 2014 by four friends who shared a passion for great ice cream. It's located just one block east of Parque de Santa Lucía.

Today, it’s one of the most popular gelato shops in Mérida, known far beyond the city. The ice cream, sorbets, and waffles are all homemade, with flavors that change regularly, so there's always something new to try.

You can also check the current flavors on the website of the Pola Gelato Shop.

There are delicious and unusual flavors such as

  • Butter gelato with croissant,

  • Almonds with a hint of coffee,

  • Mascarpone cheese with blueberries sauce,

  • Sorbet Sour orange with berries,

  • Mango with chili, or

  • Rose wine with hibiscus flower.

Countless Recommendations

Pola Gelato Shop has received numerous glowing reviews from travel and restaurant guides. For instance, WestJet Magazine writes, "There are ice cream parlors and paleterías across the city, but Pola Gelato Shop serves the most inventive flavors."

The travel blog "Where the Souls Wander" adds, "Make sure you stop by; trying these distinctive flavors is easily one of the best things to do in Mérida." New York Magazine calls it, "...the most innovative flavors..."

Even the Michelin Guide praises it: "Divine, house-made gelato just a block from Parque de Santa Lucía, with flavors like cardamom, chocolate with almond, orange peel with a hint of coffee, and strawberry with lemon."

Must-Visit Ice Cream Shops in Mérida

Apart from Polo Gelato, I can recommend two other great ice cream shops in Mérida.

Dulcería y Sorbetería Colón is Mérida's oldest ice cream shop. One of its locations is on Paseo de Montejo, and it's known for its homemade sorbets made with natural ingredients, offering flavors like guanábana, mamey, and maracuya.

A must-try is the Champola, a refreshing drink made by blending fruit sorbet with milk. Over the years, El Colón has become a local favorite and a must-visit spot for anyone in Mérida.

Helados Santa Clara is another popular ice cream parlor located in the city center, at Parque Hidalgo, on the ground floor of the Grand Hotel de Mérida.

It’s a great spot to relax, enjoy a delicious scoop, and people-watch by the church Iglesia de Jesus. The shop also has locations in the Mercado Gastronómico at Parque La Plancha and three more spots in the north of Mérida.
