Pipiripau Bar is a classic authentic Mexican bar with Caribbean influences. Authentic also means that the bar is popular with locals. The charming bar is centrally located, near the Parque de Santa Lucia.
You can sit inside or in the beautiful courtyard/garden. There is a dance area and on certain days live bands play Salsa and other Latin sounds or a DJ is on site.
By the way, you can also order a Pipiripau, the cocktail consists of bourbon, orange juice and some albahaca (basil). And if you are hungry, there are snacks to eat, like quesadillas, empanadas, salads or sandwiches.
In the afternoon and early evening it is usually still quiet, then it fills up and around 11:00 pm Pipiripau is typically the busiest. You can also find Pipirupau Bar on Facebook and Instagram.
What is "Pipiripau"?
You may be wondering where the name Pipiripau comes from? Pipiripao in Spanish means something like a binge. El Pipiripau, however, is a song released in 1972 by Los Plebeyos, a Mexican music group known for their folk and regional music.
The song is about a man called Pipiripau who gets involved in some amusing misadventures. The title "El Pipiripau" is also meant to mimic the sound of a festival with music.
El Pipiripau has become a song in Mexico over the years that represents the vibrant culture and traditions of Mexican culture.
