Parque EcoArqueológico is one of Mérida’s larger nature parks, combining ecological trails with archaeological features. It’s spacious enough for running, biking, and long walks in a quiet, green setting.

First-Hand Insights on Parque EcoArqueologico
If you're looking to immerse yourself in nature while in Mérida, the Parque Eco Arqueológico de Xoclán, located just south of Mérida, is a spot you might want to check out. It is located just a little further west of Parque Ecológico del Poniente.
Parque EcoArqueológico is a vast green space with plenty of trails, making it a great spot for running and biking. However, keep in mind that the park is mostly untouched. There are no benches, rest areas, or playgrounds, and lighting is very limited.

So, if you're someone who appreciates untouched nature, this place could be right up your alley. Bringing a mountain bike could enhance your experience, as the trails are well-suited for biking.
Feel free to check out the overview of Mérida’s many city parks as well as the best zoos and nature reserves in and around Mérida.
Mayan Structures
Throughout the park, there are remnants of Mayan structures. However, don't set your expectations too high; these are mostly unexcavated piles of stones and walls that haven't seen restoration. Still, they add a historical touch to your visit.
Birdwatching
The Cuxtal Ecological Reserve is home to a diverse range of bird species, making it a great destination for bird enthusiasts. One of its highlights is a central estuary with a small island, which serves as a natural gathering place for many birds

If you're into birdwatching, Mérida and its surrounding areas offer some fantastic spots. Besides the Parque Eco Arqueológico de Xoclán, Acuaparque in Mérida is also a great place to observe aquatic birds, especially during the early morning hours.

Outside of Mérida, the Ría Celestún Biosphere Reserve is my top recommendation. The reserve is home to over 305 bird species, including cormorants, tiger herons, kingfishers, and spoonbills.
A Few Tips
Here are some tips to make your trip enjoyable:
Best Time to Visit: Mornings are ideal, as temperatures are cooler. The park is open 24/7 with free entry, but since there's no lighting on the paths, it's best to leave before it gets dark. I recommend wrapping up your visit by 8:00 PM.
Footwear: The trails vary from flat and well-maintained to more rugged paths as you venture deeper into the park. Sturdy shoes will keep you comfortable throughout your exploration.
Amenities: There aren't any facilities like restrooms or food vendors within the park. Be sure to bring enough water, snacks, and any other essentials you'll need during your visit.
Wildlife: The park is home to various local birds, insects, and small animals. It's a great spot for nature enthusiasts interested in observing local fauna.
Pets: Feel free to bring your furry friends along; pets are welcome in the park. Just ensure they're kept on a leash and that you clean up after them.
