First-Hand Insights on Parque Arqueo-Botánico Anikabil

Parque Arqueo-Botánico Anikabil is located next to Parque Zoológico Bicentenario Animaya on the western outskirts in the neighborhood Ciudad Caucel.

It is one of the larger nature parks on the outskirts of Mérida. The park offers minimal infrastructure, but if you're looking for a quiet place to go for a jog or walk your dog (on a leash), this might be an option.

The main loop trail is 3.7 kilometers long, and chances are you won’t run into many other people along the way.

Some sections feel neglected and could use serious maintenance, so don't be surprised if you come across overgrown paths or areas that look a bit abandoned. If you don’t mind a more rugged, untamed setting, it can still be a peaceful spot to get some fresh air.

Is It a "Botanical Garden"?

Even though the park is officially called a "Botanical Garden," don’t expect an organized, well-maintained space with neatly labeled plants and flower beds. In reality, it's a fenced-off area of wild nature with a few trails running through it.

Is It a Recommendation?

The park should actually have been improved in 2023. Some benches, picnic tables, garbage cans and bike racks were installed, but unfortunately not much more was done.

There are also some dirty and vandalized areas, so the park can only be recommended to a limited extent and there are better alternatives. Best to check out our site "Best Zoos and Nature Parks in Mérida".

Hacienda Anikabil

Just a bit north, past a few residential streets, you'll find Hacienda Anikabil. This spot has been turned into a public park, and you can still see some of the original hacienda structures. The park covers about 7.4 acres, offering plenty of space for a leisurely walk.

It's open 24/7, so you can visit whenever it suits you. If you're into jogging or just want a peaceful place to relax, this could be a good spot to check out.

Unfortunately, it's similar to the Parque Arqueo-Botánico Anikabil, and certain areas could use a bit more maintenance. So, while it's a nice place for some quiet time, keep in mind that it's a bit more on the rustic side.
