All about Cienfuegos in Mérida, Mexico

Cienfuegos literally means a hundred fires. The restaurant is located in Plaza Mangus, a small shopping center on the northern outskirts of Mérida. The Cienfuegos offers a dignified atmosphere but with a unfortunately - as so often - quite loud background music.

You'll get a New York steak, a rib eye, a porterhouse or a tomahawk from the grill (they charge by weight). But also seafood like tuna, salmon, squid, camerones, crawfish, as well as salads, tostadas and tacos. Your meat is brought to the table on a wooden cart and carved for you.

The small shopping center doesn't have much else to offer but the recommended restaurants Aura Rooftop and Sushi Club Mérida are also located in the building. Opposite Plaza Mangus you will find Los Trompos restaurant, which is also recommended.

If you order a tomahawk steak, it comes hanging on a rack and a few flames rise from the wooden cart as part of the show. At the latest then the cell phones are pulled out. You may still give your consent that the degree of cooking is the desired, then it can start.

You can have lunch (opening hours from 1:00 pm) or dinner (Sundays are only open until 8:00 pm). TripAdvisor awarded Cienfuegos with the Travellers' Award. In addition to its own website, you can also find Cienfuegos on Facebook and on Instagram.

Prices

Cienfuegos is one of the more upscale restaurants in Mérida with a with a very stylish and luxurious interior. There is a wide wine selection (up to the Opus One from Nappa Valley for Mex-$ 30,000), all popular cocktails and a wide selection of whiskey, tequila and mezcales, rum, gin, vodka or single malts.

The meat is charged by weight (about 35 to 55 pesos per ounce) and the serving is decently celebrated. For our twins, who were 13 years old at the time, we ordered a steak together and that was more than enough.
