Casa Peón de Regil
Casa Peón de Regil is one of the important buildings from the beginning of the 19th century. It is located on Paseo de Montejo on the corner of Calle 35.
Between 1870 and 1920, Yucatán experienced a period of economic prosperity thanks to the boom in hennequen production. The neoclassical style house on the iconic boulevard in Mérida was built during this time (in 1908) by order of the large landowner Pedro de Regil Cámara.
Architecture
The elaborate architecture with the carved stone facade and the veranda with many white columns in Ionic style immediately catches the eye. But the eye-catching pastel color scheme with pink, yellow and white colors also contributes to this.
Both the veranda and the roof are decorated with a nice white balustrade. The house is surrounded by a beautiful fenced garden with lawns, trimmed hedges, trees and palms. A wide staircase leads up to the sweeping veranda, where the entrance to the house is located.
Headquarter of the Inbursa Financial Group
Today the building is the headquarter of the Inbursa Grupo Financiero (Inbursa Financial Group), owned by Carlos Slim Helú. Carlos Slim is a Mexican entrepreneur and philanthropist. He once was considered the richest man in the world for several years and is still the richest man in Mexico today.
The Inbursa Financial Group is a holding company and offers banking services for private and business customers through its subsidiaries. Its range includes equity and bond funds, various insurance policies (for example automobile or health insurance) and also leasing finance for motor vehicles.
