All about Restaurante Emplumado in Mérida (2025)

Restaurante Emplumado (Calle 58a #490a x 20 and 19), next to the Monumento a la Patria, is considered one of the best restaurants in Mérida, even though it was not opened until the beginning of 2023.

It is in good company with Restaurante Kuuk, which is across the Paseo de Montejo and is also one of Mérida's top restaurants. While Kuuk has a more dignified feel, Emplumado has a much more avant-garde design.

As is often the case, you would never guess what is inside from the outside. I used to walk past it a lot myself and didn't even know it was a restaurant until someone told me by chance. That's typical of Mérida, where the unexpected awaits you behind every door.

Opening Hours and Reservations

Lunch and dinner are served during the week. At the weekend, Emplumado opens at 8:00 pm and serves breakfast from 8.30 am to 11.30 am And during the week you can enjoy drinks and cocktails until 2:00 am.

If you reserve one of the few tables available at the very front of the roof terrace in good time, you will have a direct view of the Monumento a la Patria. But with the great interior design, it's also a pleasure to eat inside. Online booking is available.

What the Kitchen Offers

There's always a small selection of dishes (both local specialities, such as very tasty tacos and international cuisine with meat and fish dishes), but that's enough because there's something for everyone.

Absolutely worth mentioning is not only the great presentation of the food but also the decorative elements on the table, which add an extra touch of charm to the dining experience. Sometimes it's just the little things that make the difference.

The restaurant's menu is actually available online if you want to get an idea, but when I last looked at the website (January 2025), there were unfortunately no subpages available. Of course, this can change quickly.

Some great options to try:

• Grilled octopus

• Tuna tostadas

• Venison quesabirrias

• Oporto-style filet

Venison quesabirrias are traditional Mexican tacos, filled with tender venison meat and served with a rich consommé for dipping. The Oporto-style filet is a juicy beef tenderloin complemented by a flavorful Port wine reduction.

Final Thoughts

A picture is worth a thousand words, but even if the photos look promising, I recommend experiencing it yourself, especially if you're willing to spend a bit more for an exceptional dining experience.
