Museo de Arte Popular de Yucatán
Museo de Arte Popular de Yucatán (Museum of Folk Art from Yucatán) is no longer autonomous and Casa Molina is no longer the headquarter of the museum. The collection was moved to the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya at the end of 2023.
The folk art exhibition in the Mayan World Museum began in February 2024. Exhibited are for example pottery, musical instruments, jewelry, textiles (lace and embroidery) and also sacral and ritual icons.
There are explanations in English and Spanish and also some videos are shown (e.g. how the filigree jewelry is made). As before, free workshops are offered to delve deeper into the world of popular art.
The history
Until 2023, Museo de Arte Popular de Yucatán was a small autonomous museum in the Mejorada district with a nicely curated collection of traditional and contemporary Yucatecan arts and crafts from around the country as well as a regularly changing schedule of temporary installations.
Between 2007 and 2023, the museum was located in the historic city center next to the Parque de La Mejorada in a beautiful colonial building from the early 19th century - known as Casa Molina.
