First-Hand Insights on Mercado Santa Ana
When I first came to Mercado Santa Ana, I didn’t even realize there was an actual market hall. Facing Calle 47, there’s a row of small stalls selling clothes and souvenirs – but when closed, they disappear behind garage-style doors and are easy to miss.
And if you’re standing on the park side, all you’ll see is a row of covered food stalls, lots of colorful plastic tables and chairs, big umbrellas, and a few trees providing some much-needed shade.
It took me a while to notice that behind those food stalls, there’s a whole market hall. You just have to walk past the stands along the park to get there.

Inside, you’ll find a few more spots to sit and eat, along with some vendors selling clothes, shoes, and souvenirs. It’s a small market – easy to see in just a few minutes – but perfect for a quick break and a bite to eat.
The Santa Ana market is located a block from Paseo de Montejo. A few meters further along Parque de Santa Ana, the shopping street Calle 60 begins, leading straight to Plaza Grande.

Santa Ana’s Food Stalls
The Santa Ana Market is especially popular for its many food stalls, offering a wide variety of delicious traditional Yucatecan dishes at great prices, such as cochinita pibil (pulled pork) or sopa de lima (lime soup with chicken).
As a result, Santa Ana Market is especially busy during meal times, and Santa Ana’s central location makes it even more popular. Conveniently, there is a parking lot right next to the square, which is quite rare in downtown Mérida.
During peak hours, it’s one of the busiest markets I’ve seen in the city, so it’s best to come early before the crowds roll in. You’ll also find a bunch of shops around the square.
Parque de Santa Ana: A Quick Look
The market is located directly next to Parque de Santa Ana, a square adorned with trees, benches, several of the iconic white Love Seats, and a large fountain at its center. But to be honest, I’ve never found Santa Ana Square all that impressive.

Don't miss Parroquia de Santa Ana
On the northern side of the square, you’ll find the historic church Parroquia de Santa Ana, an example of Mérida’s colonial architecture. Built between 1729 and 1733, this church carries a lot of history within its walls.
If you’re in the area, it’s worth taking a short stroll to check it out – I really enjoy that classic Mérida combo of market, park, and church all in one spot. It gives each neighborhood a lively, local feel, and Santa Ana is a great example of that.
