First-Hand Insights on María & Montejo, Rituales de Café

María & Montejo, Rituales de Café in Mérida, is located just half a block from Paseo de Montejo, near the Monumento a Felipe Carrillo Puerto. The café sits on Calle 58, between Paseo de Montejo and the popular shopping street Calle 60.

The building and interior might be a bit different from the typical Mérida style, but they are definitely inviting. With its organic shapes and whitewashed walls, the design feels open and relaxed.

Simple wooden elements and clean lines give it a touch of Mediterranean flair. I think, in Greece, a café like this wouldn’t stand out at all.

They serve their own carefully crafted coffee blends, prepared by hand with attention to detail. At the counter, you’ll spot three stylish, manually operated espresso machines – a clear sign that this place takes its coffee seriously.

As soon as someone says it, it’s usually no longer true, but María & Montejo still feels like a bit of a hidden gem if you’re looking for a small, cozy café in Mérida with a very relaxed atmosphere.

There’s no parking due to its city-center location, but you’re probably exploring the area on foot anyway.

Breakfast & Bites at María & Montejo

María & Montejo, Rituales de Café, doesn’t just focus on coffee, they also serve homemade bread and a selection of delicious dishes to go along with it.

You’ll find traditional Mexican molletes, Colombian arepa de choclo, and classic French toast on the menu. If you're in the mood for something savory, they also offer a variety of toasts and sandwiches, including a crispy grilled cheese.

Sweet Treats to Try

If you’re up for something sweet, try the Tiramisu Espresso, a dessert made on the spot with a double espresso, mascarpone, and cookies. The Italian phrase "tira mi su" literally means "pick me up" or "cheer me up."

There are different interpretations of the name, one being the idea of a dessert that gives you a boost. The freshly made double espresso at María & Montejo should do the trick.
