Fundación de Artistas

Fundación de Artistas was a legal nonprofit organization that opened in February 2015 with the goal of becoming a leading arts center in the Yucatán Peninsula. It aimed to challenge traditional definitions of art and support artists in expressing their individuality. However, in 2024, Fundación de Artistas permanently closed its doors.

The foundation was relatively unknown, especially among non-residents. A small and inconspicuous sign marked the entrance, and even Google Maps did not recognize its existence. This low profile gave it the charm of a true insider tip.

Located in a colonial home in Mérida’s historic center, Fundación de Artistas provided space for rotating art exhibitions and hosted various programs designed to engage and educate the local community. While it is no longer in operation, it remains a memorable part of the city’s artistic history.

Attention, the Fundación de Artistas is permanently closed.

Behind every door in Mérida, there is a hidden story. What was once the Fundación de Artistas may have looked unassuming from the outside, but stepping inside revealed a completely different world, far removed from the city's hustle and bustle.

The back patio featured an open-air courtyard with a vintage carousel from the 1930s, surrounded by tables where visitors could enjoy a cup of coffee or a dessert from the small café.
