During the week, Progreso is a quiet tranquil place. But on weekends, when many are off work, Progreso comes to live.
The port city is a common stop for cruise ships, which dock at its long pier.
What immediately catches the eye on the beach are the seagulls.
Palm trees and the sea simply belong together, don't they?
Seagulls range in size up to 76cm (30 in). With spread wings in the sky, a seagull can be an impressive sight.
Progreso is a very beautiful place to enjoy the sea, that's why beach is used by locals and tourists alike...
...and the water is pleasantly warm all year round.
The beach dogs of Progreso are chilling too.
The beautiful seafront of Progreso is lined with several restaurants. Is it getting too warm for you? Gelatopia is the place where they make excellent artisanal ice cream (located on Calle 19, No. 150 B). And we have another tip for you...
"Crabster Seafood & Grill" (Calle 19, No. 148a) is serving up seafood specialties and Western fare and is our #1 among Progreso's seafood restaurants. Try a grilled lobster tail, a tasty octopus ceviche or a delicious tuna carpaccio.
A place on the veranda is highly recommended. It's also a favorite spot of street musicians, which means you'll probably be serenaded. By the way, don't you think, the view to the sea looks like a painting?
Ups, that got smuggled in here and I have to admit that the photo was not taken at Progreso, but (a few days earlier) in Cancun.
Back to Progreso and towards evening: After a last drink at a bar, the city quietens down again.
