Plaza Grande is the spot to snap a photo in front of the colorful Merida sign. The lanterns and illuminated cathedral in the background create a beautiful ambience at night.
Especially "Parque de Santa Lucia" (Calle 60, No. 476A) comes alive after the dark. The park is ringed with wonderful small restaurants and at many nights there is live music and traditional dances. The neighbarhood is a bit touristic with plenty of shops with souvenirs.
Of course, Paseo de Montejo, as the well-known heart of Mérida, with its restaurants and bars, is also worth a visit at night.
During the Christmas season, the entire Paseo de Montejo is colorfully illuminated.
The Monument to the Montejo, on Calle 47, is in the middle of a roundabout downtown in the Santa Ana neighbourhood. On the right is the "Cafetería Impala" (Calle 56A, No. 500), a favorite among locals in Mérida since 1958. This Mérida institution is popular day and night (8am - 2am). Street artists often perform in front of the cafe in the evening.
"Parque de Santa Ana" (at the intersection of calle 60 and 47) is a city square with shade trees, benches and food vendors - nearby of the historic church "Parroquia de Santa Ana".

With the fortunes made from the henequen plantations, owners started building magnificiant houses, using European design, furniture and materials. Close to Paseo de Montejo there are also various gems to be found, such like the spectacular residence "El Pinar" (The Pine Grove). El Pinar (Calle 60, No. 331) was built in 1915 and is undoubtedly one of the flagship mansions from the golden years in Mérida.
